Communications Enhancement and Protection System (CEPS)
CEP, Inc. has recently developed a new product for the soldier, the Communications Enhancement and Protective System (CEPS).
The system was developed at the request of the U.S. Army 160th Special Forces Aviation Regiment (SOAR). The system integrates highly sensitive microphones, micro-circuitry, and the communications earplug to create a device that provides;
 Enhanced sound detection capability and localization in "recon" or "watch" modes.
 Enhanced face-to-face communications.
 Two-way radio communications in stealth mode.
 Protection for both hazardous impact and continuous noise environments.
CEPS has been deployed and combat proven in Afghanistan and Iraq. One thousand of the helmet mounted units are presently in the field.
CEP for Headsets
The following instructions may be used to install the CEP system into helmets and headsets not shown in other parts of the web site. When modifying active noise reductions (ANR) headsets or helmets, care must be taken to ensure the communications signal that is wired to the CEP input is taken prior to the addition of the noise signal that is being directed to the headset earphone.
CEP will enhance the performance of communications headsets or helmets that it is installed in. The user will gain additional sound attenuation and be able to enjoy excellent voice communications provided by the high quality transducers used in the system. CEP use with aviation headsets such as the David Clark or helmets like the Gentex SPH-5 show significant improvements by reducing noise exposure and enhancing the user's performance with more effective speech intelligibility.
A few months ago, CEP, Inc. began a study with the Police Department in Enterprise, AL to evaluate the use of a single side CEP adapted for use with the typical shoulder mounted speaker/microphone. The policemen were using hard plastic insert communications so they have viewed the Comply tip that is used with the CEP as a welcomed item that improves their comfort and communications capability dramatically. The Comply cut-away tip is used with the CEP (less sound attenuation) so that the user does not loose the ambient noise input on the side where the CEP is installed. The cut-away tip maintains the needed stealth capability for incoming communications. CEP, Inc. will present surveys to the policemen to get their own personal assessment of the device.
Stereo Receiver CEP
CEP, Inc expects to begin marketing the stereo receiver CEP in the commercial market. The device was developed a few years ago for internal use when performing noisy tasks such as lawn mowing, vacuuming, wood working, etc. The 'lawn mower' CEP protects and provides a high quality sound for the user. Some tasks are much easier if there is an auditory input that is enjoyable. We have recently developed an adapter that may be used to connect the stereo receiver into civil aviation panels and use as a receiver. The adapter is configured so the headset remains active.
